Government’s big gift to mobile users, shocking announcement for calling and messaging facilities
Giving great relief to mobile users, the government has released 2 new mobile number series for calling and SMS.

This new initiative will help in differentiating between bank messages, promotional calls and messages and will also be helpful in preventing mobile fraud.

New number series:

140: Promotional voice calling messages
160: Financial transactions and service voice calls

Benefits of the new number series:

Users will know which call or message is banking related and which is promotional.
Apart from this, it will help in avoiding fake calls and messages.
Users will be able to block or unblock these numbers as per their choice.
Action will be taken against those making fake calls and messages.
A draft will be prepared to regulate OTT platforms.
Blockchain based solution and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) will be used to prevent online fraud.

When will the new number series be implemented:

After the formation of the new government, these rules can be implemented under the 100-day action plan. Telecom operators like Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea will have to implement these number series across the country.

This new system can play an important role in preventing fraud through fake calls and messages.

Flood of phishing messages:

According to the report, fake and promotional calls and messages are being seen very much in India. Every mobile user receives about 20 to 25 promotional calls and messages a day, due to which people seem to be very upset.

According to statistics, 120 to 150 million phishing messages are sent every month to smartphone users in India. Most of the people are falling prey to this fixing, around 300,000 people fall victim to the fraud.

Mobile users are expected to get a lot of relief from this initiative of the government.

This new system can play an important role in preventing fraud through fake calls and messages.
