PlayStation Mobile Games Platform in the Works: Sony Taking on Mobile Gaming

Japan’s consumer electronics company Sony’s PlayStation is preparing to launch a new platform. This platform will be exclusively for free-to-play mobile games. Sony has posted a job listing for a software engineer for PlayStation Studios Mobile, indicating that the company is preparing to enter the mobile gaming segment.

PlayStation Studios Mobile’s work:

Designing a mobile games platform for PlayStation
Connecting PlayStation Services with Mobile Games
API designing
Experience with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine
Last year, Sony also revealed that some of its studios were working on mobile games. Recently the company has also launched PlayStation 5 Slim. The retail price of PS 5 Slim is Rs 54,990. The PS 5 Slim is somewhat thinner and lighter than the PS 5. Pro version of PS 5 can also be brought this year.

Microsoft is also venturing into the mobile gaming segment:

Last year, Microsoft completed the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King for approximately $69 billion.
Many popular mobile games like Candy Crush Saga and Farm Heroes Saga are developed and published by Activision Blizzard King.
Microsoft has announced that it will launch the Xbox Mobile Store in July.

Both Sony and Microsoft want to strengthen their hold in the mobile gaming segment. Sony’s new platform is good news for PlayStation fans. It will be interesting to see which platform from Sony or Microsoft is more successful.
